It is believed to be the first time a state school has scrapped homework without extending school hours. A headteacher at Britain's first secondary school to ban homework claims the move allows teachers more time to plan lessons. Principal Catherine Hutley hopes her teachers can work on delivering inspiring lessons instead of spending hours setting and marking homework. The school's head says there are not enough hours in the day for her teachers to complete all of their work. So she has announced a blanket ban on homework to give staff time to plan "precise" lessons. Out-of-school-hours learning will still be encouraged through the school's website with prizes offered to the most dedicated students.

As the graph by Forbes shows, we are ahead of the US, France, Germany and nearly every other nation that was part of the worldwide study. Finland highest education EU ranking yet only 2.

How much time should your child spend on homework
How do Finnish youngsters spend less time in school, get less homework and still come out with some of the best results in the world? The question gets to the heart of a lot of parental angst about hard work and too much pressure on children in school. Parents facing all those kitchen table arguments over homework might wonder about its value if the Finns are getting on just fine without burning the midnight oil.
Minister for Education Norma Foley and the Government is set to announce a national no homework day for the children of Ireland in recognition of their hard work during the pandemic. On Friday, Ms Foley will brighten up the afternoon of every child in Ireland by instructing them to take a night off homework as a reward for their efforts during the public health crisis. Teachers across the country can choose a day between November 19 and the beginning of the Christmas holidays to grant their students a no homework day. Pic: Youtube.
