Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us want to be and to look the same. To what extent do you agree or disagree? I partly agree with this opinion for a number of reasons. On the one hand, the power of advertising is undeniable. The growth of the advertising industry has resulted in many people buying products of the same manufacturer, which can be seen in the case of consumer goods.
Writing in an academic context is different from writing in other situations. Academic writing follows specific conventions of structure, style, and content, and your marker will expect to see these conventions in your assignments. This section describes academic writing, and suggests ways to plan and proofread your assignment so that it meets the expectations of tertiary study. Specific types of assignment for example, essays, reports, and literature reviews have their own expectations, and these are described in the section on assignment types.
Academic writing is clear, concise, focussed, structured and backed up by evidence. It has a formal tone and style, but it is not complex and does not require the use of long sentences and complicated vocabulary. Each subject discipline will have certain writing conventions, vocabulary and types of discourse that you will become familiar with over the course of your degree.
